New Domain Dot TV
What is dotTV?
Just as there are millions of web addresses
ending in .com, .net,
and .org, the domain names of the new Internet will end with the
most recognizable 2-letter symbol in the world ? TV! So, what do
we
have to do with it? In short: dotTV is the official worldwide registry
for all of these names.
In addition to registering .tv domain names,
we are dedicated to
creating the premiere top-level domain so that companies,
organizations, and individuals can create the Internet brands and
identities of the future. How, exactly, do we do that? To help support
our customers in their efforts to build web sites that can truly
revolutionize the Internet, we've begun an extensive global marketing
campaign that will ensure all of our registrants a level of universal
exposure and brand awareness. dotTV is also ? through a series of
strategic partnerships and the development of a directory of all
. tv
sites ? creating a thorough suite of services and applications that
will
assist our registrants in building the most compelling .tv web sites.
Why use a .tv domain
name?
The Internet is continuously evolving. Many
sites that began with
simple, text-based pages are now moving toward a more engaging,
sensory approach ? utilizing the boundless capacities of streaming
video, audio, and real time technologies. A .tv web address
symbolizes rich media, streaming video, convergence, and
broadband content ? the future of the Internet.
"TV" is such a significant symbol
across all age, language, and
cultural barriers ? allowing companies in the .tv domain to build
truly
global brands. Add to that the fact that there are thousands of
short,
meaningful, relevant domain names available right now, and you
have a wealth of new and compelling (not to mention marketable)
web identities just waiting to be claimed!
Where did dotTV
come from?
.tv is the top level domain indicator (like
.edu or .org) assigned to the
country of Tuvalu, a small Pacific Island nation. Through an
agreement with Tuvalu, dotTV became the exclusive registry and
registrar for names in the .tv domain. Tuvalu plans to use proceeds
from the agreement ? a minimum of $4 million per year over the next
ten years ? to increase the quality of life for its approximately
10,000
citizens. Tuvalu is also a significant minority shareholder in dotTV
and has a seat on dotTV's board
